FARC arsenal seized in southwest Colombia

Colombian Navy troops seized an arsenal of weapons intended for the Libardo Garcia Column of the FARC in a rural area near Buenaventura, on the country’s Pacific coast.

The weaponry was concealed inside gas containers on board a van on the road between Cali and Buenaventura. It was found and seized thanks to a tip off from the Red de Cooperantes, a network of informers.

The haul includes 41 40mm grenades, a 60 millimeter mortar, 30 60mm grenades, 24 fuses, five 9mm pistols, nine 9mm magazines, a 7.62mm M60 machine gun, two M60 machine gun barrels and numerous ammunition cartridges.

Navy sources say that the seizure will strike a blow against the FARC and help to prevent acts of terrorism against civilian populations in rural and urban areas of Buenaventura.
