‘FARC want to assassinate high Cali police officials’

by Adriaan Alsema February 13, 2009

Cali police said friday they discovered that the FARC offered rewards for the
assassination of high police officials in Colombia’s third largest city.

According to the authorities, the guerrillas offer between 25 million and 50 million pesos (between US$12 thousand and US$24 thousand) for anyone who kills a high ranking police official.

The so-called ‘pistol plan’ came to light during the investigation of the car bomb that exploded near a Cali police station and killed two on February 1 Cali police commander Gustavo Ricaurte told newspaper El Tiempo.

Investigators found a list of names of officials, all ranking major or higher with a ‘price tag’ on them while searching a house allegedly used by guerrillas to plan the February 1 bombing.

The police arrested two suspected guerrillas in the operation.
