FARC to release 6th hostage on Sunday

The FARC will not release two, but three hostages on Sunday, mediator Piedad Cordoba announced on her Twitter.

According to the former senator, the guerrillas will not just release police major Guillermo Solorzano and soldier Salin Sanmiguel, but also policeman Carlos Alberto Ocampo Perez.

The policeman will be the sixth hostage released by the FARC this week. Sunday’s release operation will be the last of three. So far this week, the FARC released two politicians and one marine in two seperate operations.

The 30-year old Ocampo Perez was taken captive by rebels on December 27 in the south of Tolima while accompanying the mayor of the town of San Antonio.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos earlier Saturday criticized the release of hostages, saying they had turned into an “absurd media show” despite requests by the government not to let this happen.
