Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC are celebrating their 45th
anniversary by sowing terror, General Orlando Paez of the Public Safety bureau said Sunday.

“The actions of the FARC, that have affected areas like that of Cubará and Piñalito are the result of terrorism and destruction they want to sow on their 45th anniversary,” Palomino told Caracol Radio.

Guerrillas of both the FARC and ELN killed at least eleven members of Colombia’s security forces on Friday and Saturday.

However, according to Palomino, authorities were able to arrest 17 members of the FARC in Nariño, Antioquia and Cauca and seized large quantities of ammunition allegedly belonging to the rebels.

Both the FARC and ELN were formed in 1964 and have their 45th anniversary this year.
