FARC release helicopters arrive in Florencia

The helicopters due to carry out Friday’s release of two more FARC hostages arrive in the southwest Colombian city of Florencia, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.

The helicopters will carry a delegation made up of mediator Piedad Cordoba, members of her campaign group Colombians for Peace, members of the Red Cross, and a government representative to oversee the operation to retrieve politician Armando Acuña and marine Henry Lopez Martinez.

Colombian armed forces have ceased all operations in the area until 6PM Friday while the FARC have supplied coordinates for the secret release site location, Red Cross delegate Christophe Beney confirmed.

On Wednesday, Marcos Baquero was the first FARC hostage to be freed of the five planned releases. A further two are due to be liberated on Sunday at a separate location.
