FARC radio station broadcasts in Ecuador

The radio station of Colombian rebel group FARC has returned to the airwaves in northern Ecuador, a local newspaper reported Sunday.

According to Ecuadorean daily El Universo, radio station “La Voz de la Resistencia” (the voice of resistance) has been broadcasting in the north-eastern Sucumbios province for the last few weeks, after going off the air in October.

The newspaper reported that the illegal transmission can be heard clearly on 95.9FM between 9AM and 12AM and between 3PM and 5PM.

In October 2010, the same newspaper reported that broadcasts by the guerrilla radio station had gone off air. The Colombian army claimed in May that it had dismantled the radio station during an operation in the central Meta department.
