Colombia’s armed forces reportedly captured the bodyguard of FARC leader “Alfonso Cano” after a bombing raid between the western departments of Cauca and Valle del Cauca on Friday.
The man identified as “El Indio Efrain,” was captured between the towns of Corinto and Florida and is considered to be the man closest to the FARC’s head boss, alias “Alfonso Cano.”
The bombing occurred in an area of heavy fighting where a guerrilla summit was apparently taking place, which included high-valued targets such as Pablo Catatumbo, Alfonso Cano, and Pacho Chino among others.
There were also rumors that Alfonso Cano was injured and that his girlfriend was captured or killed during the siege.
El Indio Efrain is accused of participating in multiple attacks against police officers and civilians including the kidnapping of 12 deputies from the Valle del Cauca Assembly in 2002, which resulted in the deaths of 11 people.
According to Colombian news source El Pais, the man captured had a “great physical resemblance” to Pacho Chino, but his identity has not yet been confirmed.
Colombian Armed Forces are continuing to fight a FARC stronghold in the mountainous municipality of Suarez, Cauca.
