The Prosecutor General’s office called for the arrest of two suspected
messengers of the FARC hours before a judge ordered their release and
before they actually were freed.
The alleged guerrillas were arrested in 2007 carrying proof-of-life material of Ingrid Betancourt, three U.S. contractors and other hostages that later would be liberated in ‘Operation Jaque’.
A judge had ordered their release after the Prosecution failed to indict them on time.
The two are now accused of kidnappingand will not be allowed to leave prison.
The incident caused friction between the PG’s office and INPEC, Colombia’s prison institute. Both blame the other for the failing to indict the suspects.
