‘FARC member’ captured for killing soldiers, kidnapping

An alleged FARC member implicated in the death of five Colombian soldiers was captured Monday, reported local media.

According to Colombian army reports, alias “Ruben” or “Chichipela” took part in an attack that left five soldiers dead in the municipality of Florida, located in the southeastern department of Cauca.

Authorities confirmed that at the time of capture, Ruben was found carrying a gun, six 38mm caliber cartridges, three grenades and communication devices.

The supposed FARC member has been charged with rebellious behavior, kidnapping and illegal possession of weapons.

“Ruben” was also allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a Japanese citizen, Masao Tsutsui, who was released on August 15, 2010 after almost five months in captivity in Cauca.
