‘FARC massacre 5 in southwest Colombia’

Rebels of the FARC have massacred five members of the same family on the border of the south-western Cauca and Nariño departments, an NGO said Tuesday.

According to a member of the Justice and Peace Commission, the massacre took place in the rural Bajo Naya region.

“Residents of the region informed our delegates in the area about what happened Saturday,” an anonymous spokesperson told the press agency.

According to the NGO’s website, the five were kidnapped by members of the FARC’s 30th front just outside the village of La Vuelta and found dead in the Bajo Naya region, predominantly inhabited by afro-Colombian communities, on Tuesday.

The Justice and Peace Commission said “the massacre took place at a time that serious human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian laws by the armed forces were denounced in the conflict zone of Naya.”
