Colombia news - Alfonso Cano

Communication between FARC leader Alfonso Cano and guerrilla informants has been cut after an army attack on his security ring this weekend, a prominent intelligence official told Colombian radio.

According to Luis Gilberto Ramirez Calle, director of the police’s intelligence unit, told Caracol Radio that Cano now lost contact with his sources in the region that warned him about army movement.

According to Ramirez, investigators found “crucial” information on the computer of guerrilla “Mayerli” that would help the armed forces to come closer to the FARC leader.

Magaly Grannobles, a.k.a. “Marleny” or “Maryeli” was killed in an air force bombing on her camp early Sunday morning. According to authorities the guerrilla was personally in charge of Cano’s security. Ramirez added that Mayerli was also guilty of planting minefields and attacks against the security forces in the region.
