FARC kills 2 soldiers in western Colombia clash

Two soldiers were killed and three injured in a battle with the left-wing guerrilla group FARC in the western department of Valle del Cauca, various media reported.

The commander of the Army’s 3rd Brigade Colonel Edgar Ciefuentes confirmed the two deaths and said the three injured soldiers were being treated for shrapnel wounds.

The battle occurred when the Army engaged an offensive against the FARC’s “Miller Perdomo” mobile column, which according to the commander, has been threatening the area with kidnapping and extortion. An undetermined number of guerrillas were also wounded in the fight.

With the support of the Air Force, operations against the FARC continued in the area.

According to the newspaper El Espectador, the bodies of the soldiers have not been recovered.
