FARC kidnapped ten officials in Ecuador, says Uribe

Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Sunday confirmed the kidnapping of ten
investigators of the prosecution in an Ecuadorean border town Friday.
At least five of the officials are reported to have been released.

Uribe, currently in the United States to promote a free trade agreement between his country and Colombia’s north American ally, called on Ecuador to help find the hostages.

“We will see how to ask help from Ecuador, because the report that was given to the military commander in Putumayo said the officials were abducted in Pueblo Nuevo, Ecuador by the terrorist group FARC,” the President told press in Washington on Sunday.

Some media report the release of at least five of the investigators. Newspaper El Espectador says all abductees have been released.

The investigators were doing research in the border area on possible paramilitary mass graves.
