FARC hold missing Navy official captive

The Colombian Navy confirmes that the FARC are detaining a Navy official who went missing after a guerrilla attack two week ago in the south Colombian department of Caqueta.

Earlier, press agency Anncol, who regularly reports FARC-friendly stories, had announced that the guerrillas had captured infantrymember Henry Lopez.

According to General Farael Colon, commander of the Southern Naval Force, nothing has been heard of the official since the FARC attack two weeks ago that killed nine members of the Navy.

“We suppose that he is kidnapped by this terrorist group. This is a clear demonstration of the human rights violations committed by these illegal armed groups,” the commander told Caracol Radio.

Following the deadly FARC attack on May 23, armed forces launched an attack that cost the lives of six guerrillas.
