FARC attacks town in southwestern Colombia

Alleged rebels of the FARC attacked a town in the southwest of Colombia, destroying several buildings and forcing dozens from their homes.

The attack on the town of Timbiqui, which started around 6PM Tuesday and ended early Wednesday morning, destroyed the municipal headquarters and damaged several other buildings.

Suspected guerrilas fired automatic weapons and launched homemade explosives throughout the night, despite the presence of Navy forces in the town.

Timbiqui Mayor Enrique Amu Sinisterra told newspaper El Espectador that the rebel groups has been trying to overtake the town since March 3.
