FARC guerrilla: I shot the wrong guy, sorry

The widow of assassinated ex-governor Jaime Losada pardoned her husband’s killer, who earlier announced that doctor Losada had not been the intended target of the FARC attack and asked for forgiveness.

Gloria Polanco, recently released by the FARC after six years in captivity, said she had forgiven FARC commander Wilkin Lugo, who masterminded the 2005 Huila shooting that killed her husband and wounded one of her sons, Jaime Felipe, reported ColPrensa.

The death of doctor Jaime Losada was not planned at any point. It was a fatal error. The doctor Losada was moving forward with negotiations for humanitarian exchange, which was what the FARC asked for,” Lugo, imprisoned at La Picota prison for aggravated homicide and rebellion, said on Radio Caracol’s program “The voices of the kidnapped.”

Lugo said he received direct orders from a guerrilla nicknamed “The Paisa” to commit the assassination, but was told to attack the wrong vehicle. He also repeatedly asked the forgiveness of the wife and children of the ex-governor.

Polanco said: “When I listened to Wilkin this morning it pained my soul, I thought that it was he who had shot him, him that had taken him from me, he that had also taken my older son, but I said that from the heart I pardoned him, like my three sons.”
