by Adriaan Alsema October 9, 2010

Colombia news - Cuellar

A Colombian judge convicted a FARC guerrilla of the murder of Caqueta governor Luis Francisco Cuellar in December 2009.

Diver Duvan Calderon Parra, alias “Correcaminos”, was found guilty of aggravated homicide, kidnapping for extortion, treachery and rebellion by a judge in the Caqueta capital of Florencia.

The judge considered it proven that the rebel took part in the December 21 kidnapping of the governor who was found with his neck cut open a day later.

The kidnapping of a politician of the caliber of Cuellar was the first since 2002.
