FARC down to 7,000 members: Minister

Colombia’s largest guerrilla group the FARC is down to 7,000 fighters, the country’s defense minister said on Wednesday.

According to Caracol Radio, the figure is based on analysis of content from the computers of “Mono Jojoy,” the FARC’s military commander who was killed in a bombing raid in September.

The minister warned the guerrillas that those who still are part of the group will be either captured or killed.

“None of these benadits are untouchable, they are vulnerable. I am certain that those that remain to fall will fall,” Rivera was quoted as saying.

Government figures released in July showed the FARC went from 20,000 fighters in 2002 to 8,000 earlier this year.
