The FARC, Colombia’s largest rebel group, on Friday bombed a gas pipeline in the northern La Guajira department,
The attack on the Ballenas-Barrancabermeja pipeline, property of the Colombian-based TGI company, occurred early Friday morning.
Authorities said the FARC’s 59th Front could be behind the attack, as it is believed to move with ease between the La Guaijira department and the Venezuelan state of Zulia.
Local authorities said the attack on the pipeline left several municipalities in the area without service. Service also had to be suspended to the center of Colombia.
The Ballenas-Barrancabermeja pipeline runs from the departments of La Guajira and Santander and historically has been the target of rebel attacks.
According to the Colombia Reports conflict monitor, the FARC rebels have launched a total of 24 attacks since declaring the end of the unilateral ceasefire on Sunday.
