FARC guerrillas attack police patrol

Alleged FARC guerrillas on Sunday attacked a police patrol that was looking for two men who had been kidnapped in the southwest of Colombia a few days before.

The attack took place in the municipality of San Agustin in the Huila department.

The policemen, who are members of an elite anti-kidnapping and extortion unit, were able to abandon their cars unharmed.

The police are looking for the 83-year old businessman Agustin Gonzalez Mendoza and his driver who were kidnapped from the village of Pitalito last week. According to a local police commander, 50 policemen are looking for the two hostages.
