FARC attacks on Cauca town continue

One soldier was killed and another wounded in the latest of a series of attacks by the FARC on the Cauca town of Toribio. According to the mayor, it is the sixth attack on the town this month, Caracol Radio reported Wednesday.

The community is said to be extremely worried by the attacks because the guerrillas are firing shots from the surrounding mountains at the police station and there are community buildings including schools in the line of fire, Toribio mayor Carlos Alberto Banguero told Caracol Radio.

The national army’s third division is stationed in Toribio in an attempt to protect the small town from attacks by the FARC’s sixth front.

Toribio has allegedly been attacked by guerrillas more than 50 times this year alone.
