FARC attacks local political convoy: Army

Rebels of Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC attacked a convoy of
local officials just outside the capital of Guaviare, the army said
Sunday. One official was injured, another went missing.

According to preliminary information from the army, the FARC fired three gas cylinders at a number of cars transporting the officials through a rural area outside the capital San Jose del Guaviare, a city in central Colombia that has traditionally been a guerrilla stronghold.

The chairman of the city council disappeared in this attack.

According to official sources, the attack was carried out by members of the FARC’s seventh front.
