Alleged guerrillas of the FARC bombed the Pan-American highway between the southern Colombian cities of Cali and Popayan on Saturday.
The attack was carried out while the country’s authorities are on highest alert, because of the inauguration of incoming President Juan Manuel Santos that is taking place Saturday in Bogota.
According to local Police Commander Colonel Wilson Bravo, the guerrillas detonated dynamite in the early morning, after which the army attacked guerrillas in the north of the Cauca department where the attack on the highway took place.
