FARC attack military base in Huila

FARC rebels attacked a military base in Huila, south-east of Cali, Caracol Radio reported on Tuesday.

19-year-old soldier Juan David Toledo was injured during the attack on an army base in the town of Campoalegre, reported Caracol Radio. The base was guarding a sub-power station.

The guerrillas attacked with gunfire  to which the soldiers immediately responded. The rebels were forced to withdraw and the army pursued them into the eastern mountains of the region.

Three days earlier the FARC attempted to blow up the same power station. However, the army was able to deactivate the various explosive charges that were supposed to be activated by remote control.

The Huila region is a FARC hotspot and has seen several conflicts between the rebels and army over the past few months.
