FARC attack in Cauca kills 2 policemen, injures 5

An attack by guerrilla group the FARC in the western Colombian department of Cauca on Thursday left two policemen dead and five injured, reported Colombian media.

According to reports, the attack took place on the Pan-American Highway at an area named Ovejas, where FARC guerrillas targeted two police patrol vehicles that were driving through the region.

Police Commander Carlos Ernesto Rodriguez explained that the guerrilla forces detonated explosives on the highway as the first of the police vehicles passed, killing one passenger.

The second fatality occurred when a support vehicle came to the aid of the injured policemen.

Rodriguez added an ambulance carrying two of the injured policemen also crashed as a result of the commotion.
