FARC army convoy ambush leaves 1 dead

One soldier was killed and another four injured Friday morning when the FARC ambushed a Colombian army convoy on the Panamerican Highway between the southern cities of Cali and Popayan.

Members of the guerrilla organization reportedly launched an explosive device at soldiers guarding the convoy, killing one man instantly. The other four injured in the attack were rushed to hospital in Popayan.

An intense search of the zone is now underway in the hope that the guerrilla culprits may be caught.

The highway has been placed under intense military surveillance following the attack.
