The FARC have been recruiting minors in 178 of Colombia’s 1,200 municipalities, says the country’s highest police commander.
According to General Oscar Naranjo, director of the National Police, the guerrilla group has been recruiting minors between 7 and 17 years-old in almost all of the country’s departments.
Naranjo announced that Colombian authorities are increasing its capacities to protect vulnerable communities from illegal armed groups and their attempts to recruit children.
According to a recent report, the FARC aims to increase the numbers of minors in their ranks to avoid the 47-year old organization from aging.
