Falcao nominated for ‘best player’ of 2012 award

Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao is among the nominees for “best player” of 2012 awarded by World Soccer magazine.

The Atletico Madrid striker joins a list of illustrious names including last season’s winner Lionel Messi, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and Brazilian hot shot Neymar.

Falcao, or “El Tigre” as he is known, has been in sensational form this year and scored the winner last weekend for Madrid in a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in the Spanish La Liga, taking his tally to nine league goals for the season.

His form for his country has been equally as impressive with a sublime double in Colombia’s 2-0 victory over Paraguay in their last World Cup Qualifying match.

The 26-year old expressed his delight at being nominated for the award via his twitter account where he thanked fans and colleagues alike.

The winner of the award will be the player who receives the most votes from a readers poll while the “team of the year” and “coach of the year” will also be decided.
