Falcao leads Colombia past Nigeria

by Jonathan Roorda November 20, 2008

Colombia’s national team has ended the year on a positive note, with
a 1-0 win over Nigeria at the new Deportivo Cali stadium.

Having failed to win a single match this year, pressure was on the Colombians to prevent 2008 from becoming a total failure.

Against Nigeria, Colombia did struggle and had difficulties closing in on the opposing goal, but the reward for their efforts did come in the 82nd minute.

The Santa Marta-born Falcao, who currently plays for Argentinian giants River Plate, received the ball in the penalty area, rounded the keeper and netted for 1-0.

The goal makes an end to what should be considered a very disappointing year. Apart from tonight’s game, Colombia played 11 games, drew four and lost seven.
