Falcao injury woes threaten participation in Colombia’s world cup qualifiers

Radamel Falcao

Striker Radamel Falcao remains a doubt for Colombia’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Bolivia and Ecuador after suffering from an oblique muscle strain.

Falcao took a heavy blow to the hip in the closing minutes of Monaco’s 2-1 win over Bordeaux on Saturday, causing damage to his oblique muscle.

The striker was left out of the french side’s squad for their Champions League match against Manchester City on Wednesday.

Falcao had been recovering from other physical problems. This latest injury is the third he has suffered since his move to Monaco in the summer of 2016.

The first injury was in a Champions League match against Turkish team Fenerbahce in August 2016 when he suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg. This meant he was sidelined for a month missing Colombia’s September World Cup qualifying games against Venezuela and Brazil.

Then, in September 2016, he suffered a head injury against French side Nice, once again leaving him sidelined for a month with concussion.

Despite these setbacks the Colombian striker has been in fantastic form so far this season scoring 22 goals in all competitions for his club team Monaco.

Colombia’s coach Jose Pekerman will name his squad for the Bolivia and Ecuador matches on Friday, it remains to be seen whether Falcao will be passed fit for these crucial international games.
