A goal from Colombian Radamel Falcao Garcia was enough for FC Porto to beat Sporting Braga and win the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League.
Porto were clear favorites ahead of the match, which took place at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.
The first half had almost ended when an entirely Colombian goal handed Porto a 1-0 lead. Fredy Guarin delivered a cross from the right wing, which was headed past Braga goalkeeper Artur by Falcao.
By scoring, the Colombian extends his record streak of goals scored in a European competition in one season to 17. Moreover, Falcao became the first Colombian player to score in a European final.
Porto, who also won the Portuguese national league last week, were highly influenced by its Colombian contingent this season. Apart from Falcao and Guarin, the side also features youngster James Rodriguez. The latter came on in the final stages of Wednesday’s match.
