Exports up 130% for Colombian weapons manufacturer (video)

Colombian weapons manufacturer Indumil reported a 130% increase in exports in 2011, in a press release Wednesday.

The company reported $3.7 million in weapons sales to foreign clients in 2011, representing a 130.6% increase in exports over the previous year.

The company also reported a 33% decrease in online sales, which it attributed to tighter restrictions on civilian arms sales, and a 17% decrease in sales of explosives, which the company attributed to the changing needs of the Colombian military.

Indumil produces firearms, ammunition, and explosives. Its most popular product is the Israeli designed Galil ACE rifle, of which the company manufactures 44,000 a year.

Local press said the company is noted for its ability to take existing weapon designs and create lighter more durable versions of them.
