Colombian former journalist Olga Cecilia Vega denied collaborating with either the FARC or the FBI, according to newspaper El Nuevo Heraldo.
Vega’s statement was a reaction to Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos’ claim that the FARC wanted to kill her for her alleged cooperation with the FBI. Santos on Saturday stated that an email found on the computer in the camp where “Mono Jojoy” was killed revealed a FARC plot to assassinate Vega.
“I am not a guerrilla, neither a lover of a guerrilla, nor a federal agent,” the Colombian writer stated.
Vega admitted that the former FARC commander Raul Reyes had romantic feelings for her, and that she “manipulated him because he was in love with [her].” She continued, “He loved me a lot, and he offered me to be part of the FARC and to be presented as his oldest daughter. I did not agree to do so. I am not a guerrilla.”
The ex-reporter said that she wanted to take advantage of the situation and achieve a positive outcome in the release of three Americans who were held hostage by the FARC since 2003. According to Vega, the prisoners were going to be freed in exchange for a reduced charge for FARC commander “Simon Trinidad” who was extradited to the United States.
Vega wrote a book about her experiences with the FARC, entitled “Si la montaña hablara”.
