Solano Gonzalez, alias “Buchequito”, admitted to his implication in the murder of union leader Ciro Arias Blanco before the International Human Rights prosecution, reported the National Prosecution website on Wednesday.

On 24 March 2000, armed gunmen dragged Blanco out of his house in the Colombian department of Santander and after killing him, they dumped his body at the side of a highway.

The prosecution also confirmed that the former AUC leader Rodrigo Perez Alzate was the man who gave the order to Solano Gonzalez to carry out the murder. Perez Alzate is currently serving a 17 year jail sentence in the U.S.
