Ex-Miss Colombia and BF’s family charged in AIS scandal

The Prosecutor General has charged former Miss Colombia Valerie Dominguez and four members of her boyfriend’s family for involvement in the Agro Ingreso Seguro (AIS) scandal, local media reported Wednesday.

Anti-corruption prosecutor Martin Moreno charged four members of the prominent Davila and Fernandez de Soto families from the Magdalena department with falsifying personal documents and embezzlement while the former beauty queen was charged with falsifying a personal document and attempted embezzlement.

The former Miss Colombia and the accused family members announced Wednesday that they will not accept the charges against them. In April Ms. Dominguez announced that she would fully cooperate with the proceedings.

Valerie Dominguez, her boyfriend Juan Manuel Davila and family members Juan Manuel Davila Fernandez, Ana Maria Davila Fernandez and Maria Clara Fernandez de Soto are all accused of stealing government, agricultural subsidies intended to help poor, rural farmers.

The former beauty queen and the Davila family were reportedly the first out of 22 government officials, landowners and businessmen accused in the AIS scandal to return the money they embezzled which reportedly totaled over $1.5 Million.
