Ex-congressman wanted for killing of local official in 1991

The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court has called to trial former congressman Jose Aristides Andrade for his alleged involvement in the murder of a local official in northern Colombia nearly 20 years ago, Caracol Radio reported Wednesday.

Aristides was implicated in the homicide through the testimony of a former member of the AUC’s Central Bolivar Bloc, Mario Jaimes Mejia, alias “El Panadero.”

El Panadero stated that Aristides instigated the assassination of David Nuñez on April 5, 1991, who at the time was working for the municipality of Barrancabermeja and was running for mayor of the city in the Santander department.

An arrest warrent for Aristides was issued in February though his whereabouts remains unknown.
