Ex Governor interrogated for ‘parapolitics’

An anti terrorism Prosecutor ordered former governor of Bolivar, North
Colombia, for questioning. Libardo Simancas is being investigated for
alleged links with paramilitary groups, local media reported Thursday.

Simancas’ name was mentioned various times during the trial of Vicente Blel, former senator of Bolivar.

Former paramilitary leader “Diego Vecino” said that he met with Blel and several other paramilitary chiefs, including Salvatore Mancuso, in September 2003 to discuss Simancas’ campaign for the governor’s election.

According to the allegations of the Prosecutor, Blel attended the meeting to ensure the support of the AUC for Simancas’ election.

Simancas was Governor of Bolivar from 2003 until 2007.
