Ex-beauty queen dies after 5-story fall

Former beauty queen Natalia Mosquera Urbano died early Sunday morning after falling from the fifth floor of an apartment building in southern Cali.

Authorities said the death of the 20-year-old Valle del Cauca native was an accident, and ruled out the possibility of suicide, Colombian newspaper El Pais reported Tuesday.

Urbano´s former trainer Jorge Hernan Orozco told El Pais that the model was planning to travel to London Tuesday, and had stayed up partying with friends on Saturday night to celebrate the trip.

Orozco said that upon reaching her fifth-floor apartment, “It appears that she dropped her keys, and for that reason walked out to a balcony in the inner part of the building, from where she stretched out to reach the window of her apartment in order to open it and this was when she fell into the opening. She didn´t have the spirit to commit suicide, because she had great expectations in life.”

The model was the only daughter of Luz Mary Urbano, who was private secretary to former Cali Mayor Ricardo Cobo. Urbano represented the El Cerrito municipality in the Señorita Valle competition in 2009.

The former model will be buried in the Jardines de la Aurora cemetery Tuesday at 3 PM.
