Ex-AUC boss surrenders to Justice and Peace

Eleazar Moreno Sanchez, alias “Don Jaime,” a former boss of paramilitary coalition AUC, on Thursday has turned himself in courts to take part in the Justice and Peace process, reports Colombian media.

Juan Carlos Sosa Montealegre, alias “Minero,” another former paramilitary, also arrived in Colombia’s capital to cooperate with the Justice and Peace tribunal. The men belonged to the “Centauros” and “Heroes del Llano” blocs of the AUC, which were demobilized in April 2006.

According to El Espectador, Colombian authorities were conducting an intense search for ex-AUC members before the two men made the decision to surrender themselves.

Both men announced their willingness to take part in the Justice and Peace process and are currently being held in the La Picota penitentiary in the Colombian capital.

Colombia’s Justice and Peace process gives former paramilitaries reduced sentences in exchange for their collaboration with justice.
