Eruption Nevado del Huila; 10 dead, 150 missing

At least ten people died after the eruption of the Nevado del Huila
volcano in the south west of Colombia Thursday caused an enormous
mudslide. 150 people are still missing, authorities said Sunday.

The dead were confirmed by Interior and Justice Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio.

Two landslide that occurred Sunday morning struck the town of Belalcáze, Cauca again, which made rescue efforts in the already damaged town severely difficult.The avalanches were caused by heavy rains.

The Nevado del Huila volcano
erupted late Thursday and loosed avalanches of mud and ash that injured
nine, destroyed bridges and trapped people in their towns.

Alberto told Caracol Radio that rescuers evacuated residents by helicopter on Saturday, .

One rescuer tells the radio that food supplies are dwindling in one town.

President Alvaro Uribe surveyed the damage Friday and ordered the air force to supply cut-off towns.
