New York’s Empire State building was lit up with the colors of Colombia’s flag Tuesday to celebrate its Olympic Participation.
Colombia’s yellow, blue and red share the limelight with Latvia, Uzbekistan and Ethiopia, each of whose flags take up one side of the iconic skyscraper.
Since the Olympics began on July 26, the Empire State building has shown the flags of 40 different countries.
“We are proud to light our iconic tower to celebrate the countries competing in London,” the president of the company that owns the Empire state building said in a public statement.
Nearly two weeks into the games, Colombian athletes have won four medals—twice the amount taken home in Beijing’s 2008 summer Olympics.
This is the second time that Colombia’s colors have appeared on the building; the first was in July 2010 to honor the country’s bicentennial.
