“The national police gives priority to the dismantling of these criminal groups and we will proceed to defeat them without compromises,” Police Commissioner Oscar Naranjo told the newspaper.
According to Naranjo, he appointed the best men from his narcotics, mobile brigades, intelligence and judicial police to the elite unit charged with arresting the alleged drug lords.
The elite unit will actively persecute the leaders of gangs like “Los Paisas,” “Los Rastrojos” and other reputed gangs in 18 of the country’s 32 departments, the newspaper reported.
Earlier this month, the police established a new most wanted list consisting of the leaders of the six groups held responsible for most the country’s drug trafficking.
These six gangs are thought to consist of more than 3,000 “soldiers.”
