Eleven-month-old baby found dead

by Adriaan Alsema September 30, 2008

Police found the lifeless body of an eleven month old baby that had
been kidnapped from Chía, Cundinamarca. The baby’s father is suspect of having masterminded the kidnapping
and murder. Many Colombians reacted furiously on the news.

The baby was kidnapped little less than a week ago from the mother’s house.

The father had admitted to authorities he had paid a woman 500,000 pesos (US$ 250) to kidnap the child. He said he didn’t have the money to support the child. He denies knowing anything about the baby’s murder.

The woman who allegedly kidnapped the child is in custody. After being questioned she had to be escorted by heavily armed police to avoid being lynched by a group of 500 locals who were outside the police station.

Colombia’s Chief Prosecutor, Mario Iguarán, announced the Prosecution will demand 60 years imprisonment for those responsible for the baby’s death.
