Electoral Council ready for Sunday vote

Colombia’s Electoral Council has announced it is fully prepared for the elections that will take place Sunday, Colombian media reported.

The president of National Electoral Council, Joaquin Jose Vives, said that they will begin counting ballots as soon as the polling stations close at 4PM until midnight on Sunday. They will resume counting at 9AM on Monday and announce the winners later that day.

Jose also explained that polling stations will be counting votes throughout the day, announcing early indications and leaders.

Colombia’s National Registry recently migrated its database to U.S. servers to prepare for the elections and help ensure their security from hackers. This will make hacking the registry a U.S. federal offense.

The plan is to deliver online information from election day to each department through a press room, where it can be monitored locally.

On the registry website users may find the list of candidates for local elections, voting cards, how to vote, and where to claim one’s identity.
