Electoral council investigates referendum

Colombia’s National Electoral Council opened an official investigation
into the financing of the referendum demanding a third term for Colombian
President Álvaro Uribe.

The referendum came under scrutiny after the organizers weren’t able to clarify where the money to fund the popular vote came from. After several hearings there is still no clarity as to where the sponsors got the money.

The National Electoral Council decided to officially investigate the referendum Wednesday for possible illegal funding.

If the referendum fails met the legal requirements it can be nullified.
