Election of Colombia’s prosecutor general postponed yet again

Colombia’s Supreme Court postponed the election of a new national prosecutor general on Tuesday for a third time, after failing to reach the two-thirds majority required to make the selection.

During a four hour session of the court, no candidate managed to get the 16 out of 24 votes required to win the post.

This was the third time the magistrates have convened to try to choose a new prosecutor. Margarita Cabello Blanco remains the favorite candidate. The other two names in the running are Camilo Ospina and Marco Antonio Velilla.

The court will meet for the fourth time to vote on the post on March 4.
