El Espectador receives 16,000 WikiLeaks cables

Whistleblower website WikiLeaks gave Colombian newspaper El Espectador 16,000 leaked diplomatic cables, which the newspaper will publish over the coming few months.

According to the newspaper, it had received cables from Colombia and Venezuela.

El Espectador director Fidel Cano said in his newspaper that he personally met with WikiLeaks director Julian Assange in London and that he signed a contract promising not to share any of the information with other media.

According to Cano, his newsroom has still not found “anything explosive” in the bulk of information.
