Eight miners died when a shaft of a gold mine in the west of Colombia
collapsed, authorities said Wednesday. Rescue workers were able to take
four injured miners from the collapsed mine.
The accident happened in the gold mine of Mumbú in Chocó, close to the bordering Risaralda department.
Risaralda Governor Victor Manuel Vargas Tamayo announced he will travel to the mine and bring members of the department’s government, members of the army, police and medics to provide aid for those affected.
It is not known why the mineshaft collapsed.
