Ecuadorian militaries clash with Colombian rebels

Ecuadorian armed forces clashed with Colombian
rebels in the border province of Sucumbios, but no casualties were
reported in the conflict, Ecuador’s Defense Ministry said on Friday.

The Ecuadorian army on Thursday raided Colombian rebels
near Putumayo River and in Buena Vista and Sucumbios. The rebels
escaped abandoning their weapons and other equipments, the Defense
Ministry said.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of
Colombia (FARC), the largest rebel group in Colombia, maintains a
strong presence in this region, said the ministry.

On Sept. 22, an Ecuadorian soldier
was reported seriously injured during a clash with FARC rebels who attacked from
the Colombian side on a patrol that occupied a rebel camp in the border
region. (Xinhua)
