Ecuador to reopen Bogota embassy on Monday

by Adriaan Alsema November 19, 2009

Colombia news - Ecuador

Ecuador plans to reopen its embassy in the Colombian capital Bogota next Monday, the country’s Foreign Minister announced on Wednesday.

The two countries are in the process of re-establishing diplomatic ties that were cut by Ecuador after the Colombian army in March 2008 performed a cross-border attack to kill FARC commander Raul Reyes and some 25 suspected guerrillas who were hiding on the Ecuadorean side of the countries’ common border.

The embassy will be reopened by Ecuadorean mediator Andres Teran, who together with a Colombian partner is responsible for a swift resumption of ties.
